🍫 The 60-second answer
The best Christmas vegan chocolate gift is one the whole table can share: no animal ingredients, no “may contain milk” warning, and a flavour that suits the person. Our three ten-bar boxes are handmade in a dedicated vegan, dairy-free and nut-free facility. Order by Thursday 17 December for UK delivery before Christmas.
Every December we promise ourselves we’ll be sensible this year. Then we eat a selection box before breakfast on the 26th because, technically, it’s still Christmas. It’s a tradition worth keeping. The trouble is the friend who’s vegan, or the cousin who reads every label twice, who spends the whole ritual holding a satsuma.
Christmas vegan chocolate puts them back in the game, as long as it’s chocolate everyone wants to eat rather than a consolation prize. My first bars went out as presents to friends and family long before I sold any, so this is still my favourite time of year to make it.
What makes a good Christmas vegan chocolate gift?
A good Christmas vegan chocolate gift has no animal ingredients, so it fits a vegan diet, and no “may contain milk” warning for anyone avoiding dairy. It should taste good enough that nobody thinks of it as the free-from option, and come in packaging that won’t fill the recycling bin on Boxing Day.
Finding Christmas vegan chocolate for someone you love is harder than it ought to be. A selection box can fall at the first line of the ingredients, and the free-from shelf tends to offer one lonely bar wedged between the rice cakes. If you’ve given up and bought them a candle again, nobody blames you. But there is a better present than another candle.
Reading the label on vegan Christmas chocolate
Check the ingredients for dairy, such as whey or milk powder, then read the small print underneath for a “may contain milk” warning. A vegan label on its own isn’t a promise. There’s no legal definition of vegan food in UK law, and a vegan bar can still be made in a factory that handles dairy.
GOV.UK’s food labelling guidance explains that a vegan label means no animal ingredients were used on purpose, not that none could get in, and that anyone with a milk allergy shouldn’t rely on it alone.
🔍 Decoder: “may contain milk”
A warning a maker adds when milk could find its way into a product during production, even though it isn’t one of the ingredients.
Our bars are made in a dedicated vegan, dairy-free and nut-free facility, so there’s no milk in the building at all. Every bar is vegan, gluten-free and free from the top 14 allergens, and our mylks get their creaminess from gluten-free oat and rice flours.
“The kindest thing you can do for a vegan friend at Christmas is read the label before they have to, and choose something that tastes properly of chocolate.”

Vegan chocolate Christmas gifts for everyone on your list
Chocolate is one of the easiest vegan Christmas gifts to get right: match the collection to the person. Dark and Rich suits a dark chocolate lover, Sweet and Creamy a sweet tooth, and Fresh and Fruity a flavour-hunter. You can include a short handwritten note with any collection – just let us know in the order notes.
The best Christmas present is the one that took weeks to find. It’s a lovely idea, and not quite true. The gifts people actually remember are usually small, eaten by Boxing Day, and thought about long after the jumper has gone to the back of the drawer. That’s just as well, since Defra estimates the UK throws away about £42 million of unwanted presents every year.
Our dark chocolate gift box holds two Pure Peruvian 100%, two Atey Ate% 88%, three Signature Seventy 70% and three Dark Mylk 61%, running from deep and fruity to mellow and rounded, for £27.49. Signature Seventy is the original Mr Popple’s bar, and still the one I’d hand to someone who thinks they don’t like dark chocolate.
There’s no refined sugar in this grown-up selection of organic dark chocolate: Atey Ate% and Signature Seventy are sweetened with low GI yacon syrup, Dark Mylk with coconut blossom sugar, and Pure Peruvian with nothing at all.
For someone who misses milk chocolate: Sweet and Creamy
If you’re after the best vegan Christmas chocolate for someone who misses milk chocolate, start with our dairy free chocolate gift box. It holds two Creamy Mylk, two Pumpkin Spice, three Creamy Orange and three Minty Mylk, all made with our plant-based, dairy-free mylk and sweetened with coconut blossom sugar, for £25.99.
Pumpkin Spice is the one I’d give anyone who says Christmas has a flavour: cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves with dried pumpkin, and far more Christmas than autumn. Minty Mylk makes a fine after-dinner mint, and single bars make good stocking fillers.
For the flavour-hunter: Fresh and Fruity
Our fruity chocolate selection box holds two each of Euphoric Orange 70%, Amarillo Chilli 65%, Creamy Orange, Pumpkin Spice and Minty Mylk, for £25.99. It mixes dark and dairy-free mylk bars for a household that can’t agree, and Amarillo Chilli brings a warm chilli glow that builds as the chocolate melts.
For a present that lasts past Christmas: a subscription
A vegan chocolate subscription can go straight to someone else’s door, with plans from £16.99 a month for seven 35g bars, and you choose exactly which bars go in. Bars are posted early each month, so one ordered in December starts in early January, which is no bad thing once the festive chocolate treats have run out.
For a homemade present: raw chocolate avocado truffles
These truffles sound odd and taste brilliant (trust us), and they need no baking.
Melt 100g of Mr Popple’s Chocolate (three 35g bars; the darker ones work best) in a bowl over warm water, keeping it below 42°C if you’d like the truffles to stay raw.
Stir it into one ripe mashed avocado with a tablespoon of yacon syrup or maple syrup, then chill for 30 minutes until it firms up.
Roll into cherry-sized balls and coat in raw cocoa powder, desiccated coconut or chopped nuts (leave the nuts off if they’re for someone who avoids them).
Keep them in the fridge. They last about a week, if you can resist them.
Why handmade raw chocolate makes a better present
Because you can taste it. We make every bar by hand in small batches from single-origin Peruvian Criollo cacao, stone-ground for 60 to 80 hours and kept below 42°C from start to finish, so the bean’s own bright, fruity flavour comes through instead of being roasted away.
Chocolate makers traditionally roast their beans at 120 to 150°C, which can flatten the fruit notes. We skip roasting to keep more of the cacao’s natural compounds, then temper every batch by hand, which is where the snap comes from.
There’s a particular moment on a cold December afternoon. The heating has just clanked on, the tree lights are doing their slightly wonky best, and someone snaps a square of good dark chocolate. That small, clean crack is the sound of Christmas properly starting. It ought to be a sound everyone at the table can join in with.
Our award-winning chocolate holds a Great Taste Award, is certified organic by the BDA, and is made from ethically traded cacao grown under the Amazon canopy. Customers rate us 4.6 on Trustpilot and 5.0 on Google, and 100% recommend us on Facebook.
“My first bars went out as presents to friends and family before I’d sold a single one. I still think that’s one of the best things chocolate is for.”

Yule be Delighted (and so will your loved one) when you order Mr Popple’s Chocolate this Christmas
Order by Thursday 17 December for delivery before Christmas. UK orders go by Royal Mail Tracked 24, delivery is free over £25, and our boxes fit through the letterbox. We deliver worldwide too, though the 17 December date and free delivery are for UK orders only.
December in the workshop is less Santa’s grotto, more one man surrounded by cardboard, muttering about postcodes. I wouldn’t swap it, though. This is the month when people stop buying chocolate for themselves and start buying it for someone else, and that’s my favourite kind of order to pack.
Every order goes out in sustainable, plastic-free packaging that’s certified home-compostable, down to the parcel tape, which matters when Defra estimates Christmas adds more than 3 million tonnes of extra waste in the UK, and the UK gets through around 227,000 miles of wrapping paper a year.
You can include a short handwritten note – just let us know in the order notes. Our guide to letterbox chocolate explains why a parcel that fits through the door is easier to send over the festive period.
Wishing you a warm and happy Christmas from all of us at Mr Popple’s Chocolate, and a square of something good for everyone at the table.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is dark chocolate always vegan? No. Plenty of dark chocolate is dairy-free, but some contains milk fat or milk powder, and some is made alongside milk and carries a “may contain milk” warning, so check both the ingredients and the small print. Every Mr Popple’s Chocolate bar, dark or mylk, is vegan and made in a dedicated dairy-free facility.
Can I choose which bars go in a gift pack? Yes. Any Mr Popple’s Chocolate collection can be changed bar by bar: tell us your swaps in the order notes at checkout. It’s an easy way to build a collection around one person’s favourite, whether that’s Pumpkin Spice or Pure Peruvian, and it can be sent straight to their address.
Do you deliver vegan chocolate gifts outside the UK? Yes, Mr Popple’s Chocolate delivers worldwide. Free delivery over £25 and the Thursday 17 December last order date apply to UK orders, so if you’re sending chocolate abroad for Christmas, order as early as you can and check the delivery options at checkout.
Is your Christmas chocolate free from allergens? Every Mr Popple’s Chocolate bar is free from the top 14 allergens, including milk, nuts, gluten and soya, and made in a dedicated vegan, dairy-free and nut-free facility. If you’re buying for someone with a serious allergy, read the full ingredients with them before the big day so they can decide for themselves.
