Bold, dark and properly grown-up
At 88%, this is a bar for people who’ve already fallen for dark chocolate and want to go further. It’s deep, rich and intense, with the dried-fruit and subtle floral notes of our Peruvian Criollo cacao coming through underneath, rather than the flat bitterness most high-percentage bars settle for. Just shy of 100%, it’s a natural next step if you’re working your way towards pure cacao, or a comfortable home if 88% is exactly your level.
Made from raw, unroasted Peruvian cacao
Like all our bars, this one starts with raw Criollo cacao that we never roast. Keeping it below 42°C and stone-grinding it slowly preserves both the delicate flavour and the natural compounds that high heat tends to flatten. When the Oxford Brookes Centre for Nutrition and Health tested five UK dark chocolate brands, ours came out top for polyphenols and antioxidant capacity. We didn’t add anything special to win that, we simply didn’t roast the good bits out.
Sugar-free, sweetened with yacon syrup
There’s no refined sugar in this bar, and no sugar substitute with a chemical aftertaste either. We use just a little organic yacon syrup, tapped from the root of the Peruvian yacon plant. It has a glycaemic index of just 1, against around 68 for ordinary cane sugar, so it won’t give you the spike and crash, and it brings prebiotic fibre that feeds your gut bacteria. It’s what lets us call this a genuinely sugar-free chocolate that still tastes like a treat. One customer who manages candida tells us it’s the only chocolate bar they can enjoy without their symptoms flaring, which says a lot about how gentle yacon is.
A treat that gives a little back
Because it’s built on raw cacao with barely any sugar, every square is dense with fibre, magnesium and iron, plus a gentle, long-lasting lift from theobromine, cacao’s mild relative of caffeine. It’s the kind of bar that satisfies a craving with a square or two rather than half a packet. Like all our chocolate, it’s vegan, organic, ethically traded and made in a nut-free facility.

What does it taste like? Deep, bold and intense, with the dried-fruit and gentle floral notes of Peruvian Criollo cacao showing through, and a smooth melt with a satisfying snap, rather than the gritty, flatly bitter texture of cheaper high-percentage bars.
Is it really sugar-free? Yes. There’s no refined or cane sugar at all. It’s sweetened with a little yacon syrup, which has a glycaemic index of just 1 (cane sugar is around 68), so it won’t spike your blood sugar the way ordinary chocolate does.
Is it suitable for diabetics or low-sugar diets? Many people managing their blood sugar enjoy it for exactly this reason, thanks to the yacon syrup and high cacao content. As always, if you have a medical condition, it’s worth checking with your healthcare provider.
Is it vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free? Yes to all three. It’s entirely plant-based, with no gluten ingredients and no dairy.
Is it nut-free? It’s made in a strictly nut-free facility, and every ingredient comes from suppliers who don’t handle or sell nuts. Is the cacao ethically sourced? Yes. It’s grown by a cooperative in the Peruvian Amazon using sustainable agroforestry, fairly traded, and wrapped in plastic-free, fully compostable packaging.
